Are You Grinding Your Teeth?
November 1, 2022 in General
Teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, is a condition in which you clench, grind, or gnash your teeth unconsciously while awake or while sleeping.
Teeth grinding can result from excess stress or anxiety, but it often occurs during sleep. Sleep bruxism is considered a sleep-related movement disorder and increases the likelihood of other sleep disorders, such as snoring and sleep apnea (a pause in breathing while sleeping).
Bruxism becomes a problem when it is frequent and severe enough, leading to damaged teeth, jaw disorders, headaches, and other issues. Often sleep bruxism goes untreated when patients are unaware it is happening. It’s essential to understand the symptoms of teeth grinding.
If you suspect that you may suffer from sleep bruxism, consult a dental professional.
Symptoms of Bruxism
- Increased tooth sensitivity or pain
- Teeth grinding or clenching (sometimes loud enough to wake you or someone else)

- A locked jaw that won’t open or close all the way
- Face, jaw, or neck pain or soreness
